Now that he is a PI, he's a much more contented man. While in a hole-in-the-wall bar, a young and gorgeous girl (most of the women in this delightful mystery are stunning, with figures to die for) approaches him to discover who had left her a note demanding one million dollars! Going to her house, he discovers the dead body (an occurrence he has an affinity for doing) of a very popular rapper who had been missing for weeks. He finds the man hung from the rafters in the barn with two bullet holes in him! Mort's investigation takes him to Las Vegas, where lovely ladies seem to be everywhere. But he meets one who seems to think he's the one to work with, to find the killer. She's young but smart and smitten with good old Mort. They seem to break every law on the books but manage to evade everyone looking for them - police, government agents, good guys as well as bad guys. Gumshoe on the Loose is the third in the series (following Gumshoe and Gumshoe for Two). I highly recommend all three books.
