T
he Swedish Girl
is the tenth in Alex Gray's police procedural series starring Glasgow DCI William Lorimer. The victim of the crime is Swedish student Eva Magnusson, whose magnate father purchased a luxury Glasgow flat for her and hand picked her roommates.
O
ne of them is Kirsty Wilson, daughter of Lorimer's friend and colleague. After she returns home one night to find her beautiful friend dead in their flat, she's devastated, even more so when another roommate is arrested for Eva's murder. Kirsty, who doesn't believe him capable of the deed, asks for Lorimer's help in proving her friend's innocence.
L
orimer is in a tricky position as his subordinate handled the case and felt it was a slam dunk. Nevertheless, he asks his friend, psychologist Solly Brightman, to interview the suspected killer and the other roommates and give his opinion. Solly finds that there was a lot more to Eva than most people realized, especially Kirsty. Then another young woman is murdered, one who resembles Eva.
K
irsty, who might well have a future in policing, keep digging. If you appreciate sound Scottish police procedurals, then look no further than this popular series. I enjoyed visiting Glasgow through
The Swedish Girl
, and trying to solve the mystery alongside Kirsty and Lorimer.
