That investigation brought her close to the aristocratic, uber wealthy Swiss Vallotton family, and particularly to Julien Vallotton. That relationship develops as Agnes investigates
A Well-Timed Murder
.
I
t begins when a colleague from her prior work in Financial Crimes invites Agnes to the world's premier watch and jewelry trade show at the grand Messe Basel Exhibition Hall (Julien Vallotton is at the same show). Indeed, Swiss watchmaking forms the centerpiece of this fascinating mystery. Agnes is actually on leave from work, after being stabbed in her last case. Though she has recovered, she still suffers pain from the injury.
A
gnes is persuaded to dig into the supposedly accidental death of master watchmaker Guy Chavanon. A friend of Julien's, he had boasted of a new technique that would revolutionize watchmaking - is that why he died? She follows several red herrings and turns up many suspects before solving what does turn out to be a murder. And it's not the only one associated with the watch industry.
I
enjoy this well researched Swiss series and look forward to more of Agnes Lüthi's investigations, and to the development of her romance with Julien Vallotton.
