When I got my hands on a copy of this highly touted book, I had to agree. Funny book. More than funny. When alone, one does not usually laugh out loud. Don't know why. Just the way it is. But I burst into genuine laughter on the first page and practically did not stop until the last. Delightful and just the thing to read on a gloomy, rainy day. If you are a fan of Dorsey's novels (of which there are many), you already know Serge Storms and his constant companion Coleman. The two of them have a favorite TV show – albeit an old and classic one – Route 66. Their plan is to reconstruct their own version of that show. Their version no more resembles Route 66 than it does Gone With the Wind! Coleman is astounding. He can imbibe alcoholic beverages at the same time as he smokes pot. He spends a great deal of time prone. Serge is constantly seeking new episodes of Route 66 that he can claim as his own creation. He and Coleman soon get caught up in sales of Florida's lottery tickets. This leads to some of the most outrageous behavior ever concocted by man – or beast. Also explains the ache in your body caused by side-splitting laughter. I am sure you'll find the gunfight in keeping with Dorsey's sense of humor. He displays an incredible imagination but also manages to give the impression that he's not too happy with the way the lottery in Florida is run.
