Author Alex Grady’s mystery novels are regulars on the Scottish bestseller lists. The reason why is definitely not a mystery. I just finished Five Ways to Kill a Man and recommend it. A good read.

Someone is killing at random – using varied methods of murder, making it hard to profile the killer. DCI Lorimer of Glasgow turns to his friend, psychologist Solomon Brightman, for his insights. A fatal house fire that Lorimer is assigned to investigate, makes him suspicious when he discovers some omissions in the records of the fire.

These omissions are crucial to the case and open a whole new aspect which should have been pursued. Somehow a single killer has used brute force, poisoning, and drowning. Could these methods of deliberately causing death be tied together, along with this suspicious house fire? And why would Lorimer be so worried about his family's safety?

If you haven't read any of Grady's numerous novels, start now.
