M
urder on the Orient Express
is one of her more popular books – this mystery is widely regarded as her greatest achievement. Hercule Poirot assumes the role of detective in the novel. He, of course, is a character well known by the reading public for using his '
little gray cells
' to solve crimes.
A
remake of the previous movie (filmed in 1974) based on
Murder on the Orient Express
is being released, starring Kenneth Branagh as Poirot (Branagh also directed the film). The cast includes Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench and Johnny Depp in supporting roles.
I
had read the original mystery many years ago and fell completely in love with it all over again. It is believed that the idea for this novel was conceived while Agatha rode on the Orient Express, and that she wrote the book while on an archaeological dig in Iraq with her husband Max Mallowan.
R
ide the train with Poirot and the twelve other passengers. Relive that trip. Enjoy it again or for the first time and you will understand why Agatha Christie is still considered the bestselling novelist of all time.
