M
ighty Jack and the Goblin King
is a fantastic (in all senses of the word) follow-up to Ben Hatke's
Mighty Jack
. To save Jack's sister, Maddy, he and Lilly climb a beanstalk and find themselves in a world full of ogres, goblins, and other strange creatures. The two get separated and must rely on their own wits to save themselves and Maddy.
O
nce again, Hatke's artwork and story were overflowing with creativity. The story was just as fun and compelling as the first, but did lack that special component that Maddy's special needs added in the first installment. Also, the epilogue did not sit well with me as I am not sure exactly where Hatke is going with it.
N
evertheless,
Mighty Jack and the Goblin King
is a great read for all ages. Ben Hatke's colorful artwork and fun story will even entice reluctant readers to pick it up and keep going.
