The protagonist, Mercy Kilpatrick, comes from a survivalist family! I found the discussion of survivalists' lifestyles extremely interesting. This info comes along with a really fine mystery by the very popular author Kendra Elliot who has a number of series under her belt. A Merciful Truth is billed as a psychological thriller as well as a romance. This story takes place near Eagle's Nest, Oregon. Mercy and her boyfriend, Police Chief Truman Daly, more or less team up to investigate fires that have been set in the area around Eagle's Nest. Did I mention that Mercy is an FBI agent? Teenagers play their parts well – arrogant, know-it-all kids who need a lot of growing up. But when bodies show up, the arsonists seem more than determined to eliminate whomever gets in their way. Mercy was raised in a survivalists' household and understands the work, effort and money it takes to stock up for the time when the supplies that are stored might be needed. It's a good plot with very strong characters. Mercy and Truman manage to think of, and see, each other from time to time - enough to keep an almost romance flourishing.
