Charlotte Hinger's Fractured Families will stop you in your tracks in the first few pages. Her plot is surely a brand new one, not an old one reworked.

As Undersheriff Lottie Albright shows her husband's visiting aunt, mystery writer Dorothy Mercer, around her small town in western Kansas they see a sight they would never have anticipated. A young man lies dead in the town's Garden of Eden Park! Something even more horrifying awaits their discovery. I won't tell you what this is. Find out for yourself.

Lottie is trying to set up a new regional law-enforcement center. When Frank Simon of the KBI inserts a forensic psychologist into her group without her approval, she is more than ticked off - the new man turns out to be full of little more than braggadocio and proves an impediment to her carefully planned new center. While Lottie battles to bring her work to fruition, more murders occur, making her center even more necessary.

Fractured Families is the fourth in the Lottie Albright series. Hinger has created characters who interact with each other so well. As well as a plot to kill for!
