The Dam Keeper
is a fascinating dystopian tale accompanied by breathtaking artwork. It is a nuanced story of friendship and hope. It is both timeless and contemporary, enjoyable by all ages.
T
he plot concerns the orphaned Pig who is tasked with being the Dam Keeper, the one who winds the windmill that blows the Fog away from their walled town. Pig is not popular in school, but he does have one friend, Foxy, who also happens to be friends with his bully, Hippo. During Foxy's attempt to get the two to be friends, the Fog attacks the windmill, sending the three of them into the great unknown.
W
hile the plot might seem simple, the story is very deep and the artwork serves to only enhance it more. Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi have created a whimsical and thought-provoking work with
The Dam Keeper
and I cannot wait to see where they take this story.
