, readers time-travel to the late 1860s on the moors of England where Annabel Taylor lives with her father, a beekeeper. Annabel not only helps her father with the bees but is also following in her mother's footsteps – Annabel is a witch who is not yet aware of her powers or how to use them!

evan Wenham is Annabel's lifelong friend – the two of them tolerate no one else in their lives. Circumstances change when Jevan is sent to London to get an education. At that time, a wealthy and powerful landowner's son, Alex, takes a fancy to Annabel and wishes to marry her.
T
his is where lives really fall apart. Jevan ends up in a dungeon where he is sure to die unless Annabel marries Alex. This is also where Alex's father reveals a closely guarded family secret. The resulting tumult makes for a suspenseful ending.
W
hile I felt that I had read this story before, I realized that was because it more or less followed other similar plots. I have to mention that the proofreading could have been better. It did get to be disconcerting.
