A
uthor John Bude wrote his very popular English mysteries during the 1930s, which is today considered the
Golden Age of Crime Writing
. Many of the writers of that time have been re-published recently.
S
eems to me that the difference in years of publication is very apparent in this particular case. There's a lot of
tell
and very little
show
. With
The Lake District Murder
, I had a great deal of trouble imagining its scenes, in which the characters trying to solve the mystery were as clouds in the sky - I knew they were there but they made little impression.
T
he author of this particular novel wove a very complicated and detailed plot. His attention to each and every detail was admirable but it involved too little of the human element. Times do change.
