Carina shares the experience with readers, enjoying it overall until Erin vanishes after an evening at the festival. It takes a while for everyone to take Carina's concerns seriously, but when they do, she becomes a
Significant Witness
in the police investigation.
A
fter intensive interviews with Serbian police, Carina returns to England but can't let go. She becomes obsessed with what happened to Erin and investigates, losing her internship and her chance of a real job. She eventually returns to Serbia with Erin's mother Karen and continues digging there - which soon gets her into real trouble.

arina discovers that some of Erin's family members had a terrible illness, Aubin's syndrome and that Serbian pharmaceutical company Bastixair is researching it. She rushes headlong into danger, seeking her friend, and comes close to vanishing permanently herself. But Carina refuses to be

and fights back.
