his collection of short stories boasts well-proven authors from both the science-fiction and mystery genres. Editors Charles Waugh and Martin Greenberg have chosen tested and true talents: Poul Anderson, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Philip Jos9 Farmer, Larry Niven, Tom Reamy, Robert Silverberg, Wilson Tucker, and Donald Westlake.

s indicated by the rather cutesy title, the collection focuses on science-fiction stories where a crime is involved; and since the authors are master writers, they are all entertaining, the stories ranging from the humorous to the macabre. Adding a science-fiction element to the mystery makes for a fascinating challenge if you are an armchair detective. Logic can indeed solve a conundrum; but in most of these cases, a knowledge of scientific principles is also necessary.

One cannot help but wonder how the master detective, Holmes, would have fared. As one of his fans, and knowing of his interest in science, I have no doubt he would have defended his reputation well.)
