, Gene Luen Yang and Mike Holmes' next installment of
Secret Coders
, is just as much fun as the first. This time, the programs become more complex, as does the plot.
H
opper, Eni, and Josh learn the truth behind Mr. Bee and the turtle, but Hopper's late nights begin to put a strain on her relationship with her mom, which in turn puts her under Principal Dean's scrutiny. Turns out, Principal Dean is interested in more than just Hopper and her lazy homework skills and sends the rugby team to spy on her, putting her and her new friends in jeopardy.

s in the first volume of
Secret Coders
, each chapter of
Paths & Portals
introduces new coding skills and ends with a problem for the reader to solve. Both these lessons and the story are very engaging, making for a fun and educational read that middle graders should love. Gene Luen Yang and Mike Holmes have created a great series that I cannot wait to continue.
