The Witness    by Sandra Brown Order:  USA  Can Grand Central, 2016 (1995) Hardcover, Softcover, Paperback, e-Book      Reviewed by Mary Ann Smyth As readers, we first meet Kendall Deaton as she is pulling herself and her infant son Kevin up a muddy hillside after the car in which she and Kevin had been traveling hit a downed tree and plunged down that hillside. She manages to pull the driver from the car before it skids down the rest of the slope and slips into raging flood waters. Later, in the hospital, the driver is found to have amnesia. Kendall claims him as her husband, even though she has no idea who he is. The plot thickens as we realize that Kendall is fleeing from something or someone. The narrative flows back and forth revealing Kendall's marriage as well as the reason she is leaving her husband and father-in-law. That reason is horrible! Author Sandra Brown can always be counted on to spin a story that is not forgotten for some time. Originally published in 1995, it has been reissued in 2016. Proving that a good story, well written and told by a true wordsmith will always delight its readers. Such is The Witness by Sandra Brown.
