Repo Madness
is the second (following
The Midnight Plan of the Repo Man
) in a series starring former college football star Ruddy McCann. His early success in life was interrupted after he pled guilty to murder when he crashed his car into a lake and a young woman died. He served time and now works as a repo man in Kalkaska, Michigan. He's fond of his very lazy basset hound Jake and is very happily engaged to Katie Lottner, with whose dead father (Alan) he converses all the time.

uddy's life is about to go off course again. In the absence of his regular psychiatrist (who had a skiing accident) he has to cope with Dr. Schaumburg who threatens to send him back to jail if he doesn't take antipsychotic medication. Then his boss dies suddenly, putting his job at risk. Katie moves out, needing space in their relationship. And a young woman tells him that the girl he supposedly killed, Lisa, was not even in the car when it sank! But what did happen to her? Her body had washed up '
five days later, blood full of alcohol, lungs full of water.

R
uddy continues his repo work and Alan keeps talking to him, offering advice from beyond the grave. Together, they investigate where Lisa might have been in those five days and discover several similar cases - is there a serial killer at work? You'd better read
Repo Madness
to find out - it's filled with quirky characters and escalates to a suspenseful crescendo of action at the end. I enjoyed the mystery but must admit that I appreciated Ruddy's interactions with his mutt Jake even more.
