ooray!! Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot has been resurrected! Risen from the obsolete file by prize-winning author Sophie Hannah. First came
The Monogram Murders
, which was proclaimed a winner. Now we have the second in what I hope will be a long series –
Closed Casket
.
L
ady Athelinda Playford invites Hercule Poirot and Inspector Edward Catchpool of Scotland Yard to a house party in Clonakilty, County Cork. Lady Playford has never met the two men. Curiosity wins both of them over. They arrive at Lady Playford's mansion to find numerous guests who are also curious about their summons to the party. Lady Playford announces that she has changed her will, leaving her whole estate to her secretary! Quite a jolt to everyone who knows that the heir apparent is slowly dying of Brights' disease.
W
hen murder occurs, Poirot, with Catchpool's clever assistance, promptly solves the crime. At the same time, he reveals a few hidden secrets of some of the house guests they would rather not have had brought to light.
C
losed Casket
is a delightful tale told in Agatha Christie's style. Poirot is as enigmatic as he was in the past, always using his little grey cells. Sophie Hannah is an internationally bestselling author of 10 psychological thrillers. She is known in more than 20 countries. Hannah has done a splendid job using Christie's voice. I could easily picture the little man with his mustache and spats solving yet another crime.
