atherine was kidnapped, chained, beaten and raped when she was an innocent, carefree twelve-year old named Katie. Though she was released by the perp's abused son Will, he was suspected by many of being involved, and was treated harshly by police and later by the foster care system. He reinvented himself as Ethan.

, Ethan contacted Katie, but didn't tell her who he was. They fell in love but she felt betrayed when she learned his identity and rejected him. That first half of the story ended on a cliffhanger, leaving readers wondering how Will and Katie would (inevitably) get together again.
I
t's relentless journalist Lisa Swanson who makes it happen by giving a sympathetic interview to Will's father, with whom she's maintained contact in prison. Which is where the story really stretched the bounds of credibility for me. But that pushes Katie to contact Will again. She gives in to her feelings for him despite her mother's and sister's strong objections.
A
nd, even from jail, Will's father continues to make trouble for his son and for the one who got away from him. Though the story felt stretched a bit too far to me through two books, fans who enjoyed
Never Tear Us Apart
will appreciate more of the same in this sequel, in which everyone seems to finally get what they deserve.
