A
young, pregnant woman is found in a trailer park beaten to death. Her unborn baby is also a victim of this horrendous assault.
C
ounty Prosecutor Madeleine Thompson is assigned the case, which could lead to a death penalty. Her co-counsel refuses to work the case as she vehemently disapproves of the death penalty. Assistant prosecutor Elsie Arnold must now work with frosty Madeleine - not her choice as a partner.
T
he only witness is the victim's six year-old daughter, Ivy. Not an easy one to put on the stand and question. Madeleine brings in the state attorney general's office, of which Elsie disapproves. Then a truly tough defense lawyer joins the mix. Elsie has her work cut out for her.
E
lsie works the case in spite of all the obstacles put in her way, one of which is making sure that Ivy remains safe. What should be a cut-and-dried case turns into one in which a guilty man might be free to walk the streets again.
T
he Wages of Sin
by Nancy Allen is the third in this gripping series. I'm looking forward already to the fourth.
