Also cathartic. This is the story of her rape. As readers, we are privy to her innermost thoughts. Her anger. Her grief. Her acceptance of compassion. Her concern for others when they learned of her ordeal. She didn't want pity but understanding. Winslow struggled with the aftermath of twenty years, not vindicated until her attacker was found and arrested. She tells of working with the justice system. She had a cadre of various lawyers who helped her and cared for her. She had to work a lot through Skype as her home, although she was born in the USA, was then in Cambridge, England. She has a husband and two sons. She somehow managed to hold a home together and travel to Pittsburgh numerous times to bring the man who violated her to pay for his crime. Jane Doe January contains the strong words of a strong woman. She relates her tale in a very readable book. I found myself cheering her on as she fought for what is right. Emily Winslow is the author of three crime novels set in Cambridge, England. Writing is her skill. And she does it well. She tells it like it was. Life can be hard enough without the burden of suffering being raped. I admire this woman for her fortitude. Thank you, Ms. Winslow, for relating your story. I salute you.
