Retired private school head Maggie Detweiler and her old friend, socialite Hope Babbin, are headed to Maine to attend a week-long cooking class in this new series by popular author Beth Gutcheon. Little do the two women guess what is in store for them.

They check into the Oquossoc Mountain Inn in Maine, unfortunately just in time to witness an extremely rude man giving the receptionist a very nasty tongue lashing. This very wealthy man can't believe he can't have what he wants when he wants it. He is accompanied by his wife, sister-in-law and a small dog – just a bundle of fur.

A late-night fire kills the rude man and the receptionist is arrested, accused of setting the fire. The two women are sure that the young woman is not responsible and start an investigation of their own. The town's deputy sheriff, Buster Babbin, is Hope's long estranged son and is in need of justification to keep his job. Bringing in the real arsonist would go a long way in helping him stay employed.

It's a delightful book with two women who prove they've still got it. 'It' being the brain power and perseverance to see this case through to the end. They not only solve a crime but also help Buster come out on top over the intrusive (and very wrong) senior law enforcement and high-powered state's attorneys.

Beth Gutcheon is the author of nine previous novels, the writer of several film scripts, and an Academy Award nominee for The Children of Theatre Street.
