y Sweet Audrina
is perhaps the strangest and most disturbing novel I've read by V.C. Andrews. Touted as a psychological thriller, this novel certainly delivers. However, I find the plot a little more predictable than other Andrews' novels as well as more emotionally disturbing.
T
hat said, though I did not not actually enjoy this novel, I still could not put it down. It has the same suspense as other novels by Andrews, that keeps readers hooked until the end. Still, I found this novel sort of like a daytime soap opera in print, and I do not enjoy watching soap operas.
A
udrina's family is something of a quilt. Her older sister passed away before her birth, Audrina lives with her parents, aunt, and cousin. Despising her cousin and trying to be as good as her older deceased sister for whom she is named, Audrina sifts through the secrets and lies of her family.
B
eing a V.C. Andrews novel, you can be sure that the secrets and lies Audrina uncovers as she grows up are juicy ones! Of course, no one is exactly as they seem at face value either.
B
asically, this novel has entertainment value, but not much else. The plot is too predictable and the circumstances and situations that the characters face seem too over the top to be plausible.
