rmy veteran Van Shaw has plenty of troubles of his own when an old Army buddy appears out of Van's past. The man needs help; he is suffering from PTSD and can't handle it on his own. Although Van suffers from this curse himself, he can't turn his back on his friend.

an tracks deep into the wintry forest of the Olympic Mountains, seeking a missing girl. What he finds instead are dead bodies – obviously murdered. Van has a very strong girlfriend who questions his decisions which, she feels, threaten their relationship. Van and his buddy must deal with much more than they bargained for, a mess that could leave Seattle a smoking ruin.

has a convoluted story that is easy to fall into as Van progresses with his search for killers. The book is tightly written and will catch your interest the moment you open the first page.

an Shaw is a model of today's ex-servicemen suffering from their combat experiences while trying to assimilate themselves back into the lives they left behind. Hard to do.
Hard Cold Winter
is a good book.
