The Locket    by B. G. Cousins Order:  USA  Can Corrxan Inc., 2015 (2015) Softcover      Reviewed by Barbara Lingens In times of war people reach out to whatever they think will help them survive. The locket in this story is just such a talisman, though it is not the only one. When her brother Jeremy leaves in 1917 for the war, Elizabeth gives him a locket with her picture inside. With her father gone missing, she has to run the family steel mill and bear all the snubs that a female in power at that time had to endure. After the war, when her father is found and wants Elizabeth's and Jeremy's help in getting a valuable package out of Russia, they put together a small army, complete with munitions, and set out. There is plenty of action as they travel over the vastness of Russia, encountering bands of soldiers of various political persuasions, some helpful and some not. It doesn't help that there is a traitor in their midst, especially after they find the father and his package. This adventure, though a bit unbelievable, is certainly captivating. The battles fought are compelling and raw in their honesty. And the characters are wonderfully fleshed out. My problem is the last part of the book, where we are lead to believe there is more to come and where Elizabeth's love suddenly turns out to be someone completely different from what he was before. His story, revealed rather briefly is in itself worthy of a novel. We will need to watch for more from author Cousins.
