That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. I did. Anne Rivers Siddons has been one of my favorite authors for years and how I missed this one, I don't know. Fortunately, I found it and enjoyed it as I have her many other books, including Downtown and Colony. The plot digs deep into human emotions. Merritt Fowler has always been the backbone of her family, which includes her physician husband Pom, her sixteen year-old daughter Glynn and her unpredictable younger sister Laura. Not to mention her mother-in-law Mommee, who is sinking slowly into dementia and must be watched every minute. As Mommee becomes more intractable, Merritt is insistent that she be put where she can get professional help. Pom refuses. But he is not the one who must spend her days in the company of a woman on the brink of insanity. The daily grind of Merritt's life changes drastically when Glynn runs away from home to join her Aunt Laura in Hollywood. Merritt takes the next flight West and finds something she hadn't counted on, but that will change her outlook on life as well as Pom's. This shift of locality brings with it descriptions of the giant redwoods and a park deep in the woods, where Merritt learns a few new life lessons. I loved Fault Lines as I did Anne Rivers Siddons' many other books. She is highly regarded in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. As she should be.
