Guthrie Hewitt comes to private investigator and restaurateur Jane Lawless with a unique problem. He wants to propose to his girlfriend Kira Adler on Christmas Eve. However a trip to Kira's home on Thanksgiving had him doubting his decision. He loves Kira but her terrible nightmares of her mother being murdered makes him very uneasy. Her nightmare doesn't make sense. According to family history, her mother's death was not a murder. Guthrie begins to believe there might be more to the nightmare than he first thought. He goes to Lawless to help him sort out the facts of Kira's mother's death. What she discovers would be enough to give anyone nightmares. Lawless digs deep and finds that the façade of the family is beginning to fade. It is a close-knit family that is coming apart at the seams. Too many secrets kept for too many years eventually will crumble. The Grave Soul is a very good book by a very prolific author with many awards to her name.
