I am sad because this was my last trip to Fairyland, but I really enjoyed this novel too. I'll miss September and her friends, Ell and Saturday. And I'll miss all the new friends I've met such as Beatrice, the Gentleman Greyhound and Several Untrustworthy Winds. But as author Catherynne M. Valente says, 'Our books are friends for life', so it isn't really farewell to fairyland forever. September, a bit older and a bit wiser, also returns to Fairyland one last time. This time our protagonist soars over fairyland and visits the moon. If you've been following the series you'll know that this isn't quite our moon, and it's inhabited by weird and wonderful and not-so-wonderful friends and foes. After briefly shirking her work (see Chapter X), September encounters a troublemaking moon Yeti. The Yeti was once a cute, furry little snowball of a thing but has grown into a fearsome beast complete with red eyes, black horns, and hands with the power to crush wine from boulders (yes, things work differently in fairyland than they do here on Earth). The Yeti sounds like me before I've had my morning coffee! But that's not all. There's a lot going on in Fairyland and places like it, too much for me to even begin to fill you in about. I've given you but a small taste of the fun you'll have. Yes, a trip to Fairyland is reminiscent of Dorothy going to Oz, but much more fun, busier, and even more whimsical. This book is a fantastic read for boys and girls, the young-adult reader set, but I know that mom and dad and adults who will have to go buy the book instead of swiping it from junior will also have just as much fun reading this most entertaining of novels. So pull up a cozy chair and wipe your feet ... the moon likes its guests to have clean feet! Enjoy your trip!
