If you are unfamiliar with author Kathy Reichs' work, perhaps the name Temperance Brennan will ring a bell. Reichs' mysteries were the inspiration for the Fox TV program Bones. She is now a producer for the show and also writes scripts. Temperance is a forensic anthropologist as is her creator. You can't get any more authentic than that. Flash and Bones is the 14th in the very popular series.

Reichs brings real forensic work into her novels. Some might feel a bit squeamish reading her accurate descriptions – but I have had the honor to attend an actual autopsy. I wasn't squeamish – well, maybe not too much. The human body is a very fascinating thing.

To get to the heart of Flash and Bones, a NASCAR crewman approaches Brennan for help in finding his sister. Cindi disappeared twelve years ago along with her boyfriend. Neither was ever seen again. The police were sure the two had run away together. A body has been found in a landfill beside the racecourse in Charlotte, where Brennan is helping with some work. Could it be either Cindi or Cale, the boyfriend?

But others are missing also. Brennan works her magic with the skeletal bones. And becomes interested enough to go farther than just identifying the poor soul who laid in a landfill for years.

Here is where the story becomes more and more intriguing. Exciting. Thrilling. Hold your breath while you read of Brennan's escapade while she is hot on the trail of a killer. If you follow NASCAR, you will also be able to learn a thing or two about your favorite pastime. Very good reading.
