In June, 1904, on Whitby Island off the coast of Portland, Maine, Aimee, the wife of one of Maine's richest and most powerful men, is found nude, broken and dying at the base of a sixty foot cliff.

June of 2012 finds Aimee's descendent and namesake broken and dead at the base of the very same cliff on Whitby Island! Stabbed to death.

How could the lovely and promising daughter of another generation meet the same fate as her grandmother did?

The Girl in the Glass by James Hayman weaves a tale that grabs your attention immediately and won't let go until the last page. The only disappointment is that the story doesn't go on for at least a hundred more pages.

Aimee has a half sister, Julia, who is just three days younger than her. She plays a big role, as she is considered to be a person of interest in Aimee's murder. Aimee must have been a hard person to like. Her father spoiled her outrageously without realizing the person he was creating. He paid a high price for his indulgences.

Detectives Mike McCabe and Maggie Savage enter the case. They are known for their ability to bring swift closure to cases that baffle others. (Other books in the series are The Cutting, The Chill of Night, and Darkness First.) As well as tantalizing his readers with a mystery that is almost unsolvable, author Hayman creates a fictional island that we all wish we could visit.

Hayman portrays Savage and McCabe as very real, caring individuals with their own emotional problems. As we learn of this part of their lives, we fall in love with both of them and wish we ourselves could be there to hold their hands as they wrestle with decisions that they have to make about their personal lives.

I read The Girl in the Glass in one day. I simply could not put it down. You won't be able to either. Don't miss this one.
