t's April of 1616, in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare, who is obviously on his deathbed, calls his estranged friend Simon to his side to tell him that he is being poisoned! Shakespeare wants Stratford Constable Simon Sadler to discover who is hastening his death.
W
illiam Shakespeare led a profligate life – even to bedding Simon's wife! He was a charmer and had the women of London at his beck and call. Seems like the Stratford women also were drawn to him. He had returned home to Stratford and been on his best behavior. But too little, too late.
T
he constable's investigation turns up many clues, as well as putting his own life at stake. He still has a very bad time reconciling Shakespeare's adultery with his wife. They had been as close as brothers.
A
uthor Tony Hayes brings the time of Shakespeare to life. Realistically so. And manages to characterize the well-known poet and playwright. We all know of his plays but not of the man. Interesting saga.
