s in all her previous novels, Susan Lewis writes about tough topics with heart and sensitivity in
No Place to Hide
. But I won't tell you what that tragedy is here, as that question pulls reader interest through the story and the answer is only revealed close to its conclusion. And as always, the author tells her tale through quirky, spirited and engaging characters, whom readers quickly grow to care about.

s you read, you wonder, why, why why? What led Justine Cantrell to flee England with her three-year-old daughter Tallulah, leaving her beloved husband Matt behind? She moves to Culver, Indiana on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee, where she has happy childhood memories of time spent with her grandmother.
B
ut why did Justine feel compelled to leave England? Why did her distant mother (a gardening celebrity) object so strongly to her destination? Why has she lost contact with close friends and family? And where are Justine's two older children, Abby and Ben? We share her memories of past years and they are very present in, and important to, her life then.
I
n Indiana, Justine makes a new friend of realtor Sallie Jo Osborn, who helps her settle in and whose small daughter Hazel quickly adopts Lula as her playmate. Justine is happy there, though constantly on her guard. She keeps her past hidden but becomes curious about her grandmother. Eventually she does uncover her grandmother's secret, discloses her own tragedy to Sallie Jo, and finds some hope and happiness once more.
