Shoot the Woman First
as the fourth in Wallace Stroby's Crissa Stone mysteries. Crissa is a very likeable felon, who runs well planned, non-violent capers to fund her daughter Maddie's care (Maddie believes Crissa's cousin is her mother) and to pay her mentor/lover Wayne's lawyers - he's serving time in a Texas prison.
N
ow Crissa is once again short of funds, so she takes on a
give-up
heist for wealthy art collector Emile Cota. He needs her to steal a truckload of plundered Iraqi artifacts before they're repatriated - it's his truck and he wants her to rob it as it crosses the desert between Las Vegas and California. And she is to work with his ex-military
facto factotum
, Randall Hicks and his team of guys he served with. Crissa has a brief fling with him but then it's down to business.

gang aft agley
, which seems to happen in each of Crissa's ventures. After her old friend Chance, whom Crissa enlisted, drives off with the artefacts, it does this time too - despite her protests, there are multiple casualties and Crissa knows that as soon as Chance completes his run, Hicks and his mercenaries will target them as well, not to mention her other dissatisfied associates.
S
oon Crissa and Chance are under siege in a long, action-packed finale. Who will be the last one standing? Read
The Devil's Share
to find out. This episode ends with Crissa on an airplane to France so it looks like her next heist will be European; I'm looking forward to it.
