This prequel to Frank Herbert's classic Dune is written in the same style. It introduces Paul's father Leto Atreides, and shows Prince Shaddam as he plots and kills to become the Padishah Emperor. Dune, House Atreides is the first in a series which adds to the epic. As such, it is a must read for fans of the Dune novels. Unfortunately, it also exaggerates the failings of the original: that is, cut-out characters and scientific and psychic miracles introduced to help along a stumbling plot.
