ere's a rather different kind of recipe book. In David Bez's
Salad Love: Crunchy, Savory, and Filling Meals You Can Make Every Day
, there's more assembly than cooking required - and you can even do it at your desk just as he did!

intro, Bez tells us that he's '
a designer and food lover raised in Milan.
' A salad lover, he was inspired to make a different one every day for his lunch and wanted it to be '
healthy, fresh, tasty and quick
'. He found that the desktop preparation, and enjoyment of the result became '
a little Zen moment.
' He has been making these healthy lunchtime treats now for three years!

alad Love
begins with instructions on salad layering and assembly - of a
Base
,
Vegetables & fruit
,
Protein
,
Toppings
,
Fresh herbs
, and finally
Dressings & spices
. The recipes (each essentially a list of ingredients for salad and dressing, underneath a mouthwatering color photograph) are grouped by season and labelled as
Raw
,

or
Omnivore

hese appeal to me - you'll find your own favorites. For summer there's the
Strawberries, Melon & Almonds
combo or how about
Anchovies, Cucumber, Red Pepper & Black Olives
? In the Fall I'll try
Shrimp, Red Rice, Cucumber & Nori
and perhaps
Feta, Couscous & Roasted Eggplant
. In winter, I like the look of
Apple, Celery, Walnuts & Pomegranate Seeds
. And for spring (may it arrive soon!) I look forward to
Sashimi Salmon, Avocado & Jasmine Rice
. The dressings are mouthwatering too.
I
n my home, we enjoy salads almost every night with dinner so it's good to have new ideas of what to include in them. Whether, like me, you're simply looking for inspiration to impress family and guests, or - like the author - you're ready to dazzle colleagues with colorful lunch combinations,
Salad Love
has a lot to offer.
