Drawn in classic Feiffer style, Kill My Mother is the perfect combination of two movie genres – Film Noir and Film de Femme – but in book form. The movie feel is played up by the second half of the story taking place in the entertainment industry in Hollywood during its heyday. But the story is not about Hollywood, or even murder; Kill My Mother revolves around the relationship between the gutsy widow Elsie and her resentful daughter Annie. These two have grown apart over the course of at least a decade, but what finally brings them together is something no one could have foreseen. Jules Feiffer pens a twisted tale with many odd comings and goings, but it all comes together in the amazing piece of written and visual art that is Kill My Mother.
