Spike Sanguinetti is not enjoying a good period in his life. His girlfriend Zahra disappears without a trace. He eventually receives a phone call telling him not to search for her. Shortly after that disturbing message, his best friend and law partner Peter Galliano is mowed down by a hit and run and the prognosis is not encouraging. A connection?

All of this takes place on the Rock of Gibraltar. Peter had a pending case with a treasure-hunting marine salvage company. A woman approaches Spike to prove that her husband did not commit suicide. Spike begins to understand that he is immersed in international politics and realizes that he is in danger because of this. The dénouement might keep you up late, both reading and checking the locks on your doors.

In Hollow Mountain, author Thomas Mogford brings the reader to Gibraltar in large gulps of the Rock, the Mediterranean, the apes who reside there with free rein, and the endless tourists. This is the third in the Spike Sanguinetti series, the first two being Shadow of the Rock and Sign of the Cross.

It was good reading on this miserable rainy day here in Pennsylvania. Wouldn't mind soaking up some of that sunshine beaming down on the Rock. Always wanted to visit the Rock of Gibraltar. Hollow Mountain is the next best thing.
