Lana fled her hometown twenty years ago after her plan to break open the town's dark secret went horribly wrong. Now that the scandal has blown wide open, Lana decides it's safe to head home and identify the remaining members of the Cronus Club; they would finally pay for ruining her life as well as those of countless others.

After Lana disappeared, Adam chose to forget her and the dark promise he'd made her, with booze and women, until his friend Noah Bennington helped him clean up his act. Outraged over what's been going on in his town for decades, Adam swears those responsible will fall. Once Lana reveals herself to him, he knows he must convince her to bring the whole story to light, despite her renewed fears. But there are others who have another agenda, one that involves taking the law into their own hands and making the members of the Cronus Club pay the highest price for their twisted sins.

Walker keeps the mystery and creep factor high in this second instalment of her Secrets and Shadows series, slowly prying open additional revelations of the town's scandalous secret.

The beginning of the book was rather slow moving as Adam and Lana are reacquainted and come to terms with their attraction, which is sizzling hot. Despite Lana's early promise that she's home to make those responsible pay for their sins, she's initially too reticent in laying out the truth to Adam, let alone the authorities. Once the momentum of the story picks up though, it barrels ahead to a satisfying cliffhanger. Here's hoping that all will finally be revealed in the final instalment, Darker Than Desire, due out in early 2015.
