TenHuis is situated next door to Clowning Around, a shop that sells all manner of things relating to clowns. Clowning Around is closed, because its owner, Moe Davidson, was killed a month ago. Lee would like to acquire the shop to enlarge the Chocolade. She asks to tour the inside of the building to see if it would be possible to renovate it for the chocolate shop. Moe's widow Emma and her two stepchildren want it listed but are asking more than Lee thinks it's worth. Lee begins to feel uncomfortable, sensing that Moe's killer might still be at large. The town is celebrating Clown Week. Many strangers will be in town as tourists. Could one or more of them be killers? Lee spends her time trying to uncover who is guilty and, for heaven's sake, why? She is also rolling out hundreds of clown-themed chocolates for the festival. Many of the outsiders could be there in clown costume and unidentifiable. How does a cream-cheese flavored filled truffle enrobed with dark chocolate and trimmed with a white chocolate dot sound. I almost needed to have a napkin to wipe the drool off my chin. This and other varied truffles are described. It would be easy to get hooked on chocolate just from reading The Chocolate Clown Corpse. This mystery has more than clowns and chocolates – but these things play a big role. A well-defined plot in a delightful novel.
