Maggie Gerber owns and runs a second-hand shop and is doing very well, thank you very much. She has a coterie of friends who call themselves the Good Buy Girls. The four of them are always ready to hit the sale racks and have known each other since kindergarten. Now forty, Maggie is eyeing an old flame who is also eyeing her. Looks like things are getting serious once again.

However – isn't there always a however? Summer, her nemesis during and ever since school years, seems to have her heart set on the same man, Sam the sheriff. When Summer's mother Blair arrives in town, open warfare explodes. Blair has chosen Sam for Summer and can't stoop low enough to do whatever it takes to bring about a marriage.

Maggie is not about to hand over her true love and Blair refuses to even acknowledge that Maggie exists. Maggie traipses over to Summer's house to have it out with her. On arriving, she finds Summer standing over a dead body with a weapon in her hand. Bad timing on someone's part.

I enjoyed this cozy. I liked the characters – the four friends who stick together no matter what. I have friends like that. Aren't I lucky? Summer and everyone around her could do without the venomous Blair. Blair is one you love to hate. The ending became a little too sticky sweet for me but the book was well worth a read.
