T
hough I enjoy Douglas Corleone's Kevin Corvelli mysteries set in Honolulu, Hawaii, I like this series starring former U.S. Marshal Simon Fisk (introduced in
Good as Gone
) even more. Haunted by the loss of his daughter Hailey when she was six and by his wife's subsequent suicide, he works privately to find children abducted by estranged parents.
T
hough he normally will not take on stranger abduction cases (too many bad memories of Hailey's loss), he owes movie studio mogul Edgar Trenton a big favor. So Simon agrees to search for his daughter Olivia, kidnapped from their home in Calabasas, California by masked men. And he keeps looking even after the feds zero in on Trenton as the perp.
O
livia had recently enjoyed a vacation in the Cayman Islands with friends. It seems that she met someone there, but locals have clearly been threatened and are close mouthed about Olivia's wealthy companion. Simon follows rumors of a Costa Rican gang involved in sex tourism to San José, where he's helped by an old friend of his wife's, a nurse.
T
hough they rescue young women, Olivia is not one of them. But lovely Mariana overheard clues to Olivia's whereabouts. She accompanies Simon to Columbia where young women are kidnapped to work as drug mules. There, another friend, a DEA agent, crosses lines to help them. What they discover takes them to Venezuela, where the reason for Olivia's abduction is finally revealed.
A
s always, Douglas Corleone gives readers a fast-paced, violent thrill ride of a read, set in exotic locations. Don't miss
