regg Hurwitz can always be counted on for a pulse-pounding read and he's delivered another one in
Don't Look Back
. In it, he takes his vulnerable lead, nurse and single mother (since her husband left her for a younger woman, an
elegant
accountant from Amsterdam) Eve Hardaway on the vacation from hell - a rafting and hiking tour in the jungles and mountains of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico. She misses her small son Nick and needs a change of scene to reclaim herself, but has no idea what she's in for.

ve sees something she shouldn't (a burly, bearded man doing target practice with a machete), and finds something she soon wishes she hadn't (a broken digital camera that belonged to a tourist on a previous trip, Teresa Hamilton). She learns that Teresa has been reported missing and shares her concerns with a fellow traveler, Will. Suddenly, she and her companions are being hunted, without any opportunity to contact the authorities. Can Eve, and the others, possibly survive against ridiculous odds?

s you might expect, they are picked off one by one, and not all behave bravely or selflessly. Eve digs deep within herself and finds unexpected resources and skills, her only ambition in life to survive and return to look after her son. She makes mistakes but learns from them. is an engrossing thriller that would make an adrenaline rush of a movie.
