W
est Grayer lives under the decree '
Be the one, be worthy.
' To be worthy, she must kill her Alt, a twin of sorts, raised in another family. West has done just that and is relieved that her days as a striker, or assassin, are over. At least, that is what West thinks.
A
lthough West has proven herself worthy, The Board, the governing body of the ward that West lives in, is not through with her. The Board requires West to kill again. She is to kill the Alts for the children of The Board. In turn, West will secure the freedom of her future children who will never have to kill.
U
nknown to West, The Board is lying to her. They are not only lying about whom she must kill, but also about the reward she will receive for it. Regardless, as West embarks on her new task, she uncovers secrets of The Board, endangering her mission, herself, and her loved ones.
I
ended up enjoying this novel for readers ages twelve and up. I find the story akin to
The Hunger Games
with a strong female protagonist sent out on a mission where she must kill in order to secure her future. Not having read the prequel was not a big issue either; about fifty pages in, the story started making more sense and the action really picked up, making this novel hard to put down.
W
hat will become of West, her friends, and her future? What secrets is The Board hiding? Find out in this riveting sequel to
Dualed
