T
his first installment in the Arcadia Bell Series finds protagonist Arcadia '
Cady
' Bell in a perilous situation. Life seems to be going well for Cady, the proprietor of the Tambuku Tiki Lounge. But her clientèle includes not only humans, but demons as well.
C
ady, it turns out, lives in a world of humans and demons, and has supernatural powers herself. Because of her parents, occultists made famous due to alleged murders, Cady has been on the run and in hiding. Life gets complicated when her parents reappear, endangering themselves and their daughter.
I
n order to clear her parents of the crime and restore the family's name, Cady must prove their innocence, and she'll need the help of demons. This proves particularly difficult as the only witness is a rather elusive demon. Teaming up with a demonologist is Cady's only chance of finding the truth.
I
must admit I did not particularly care for this book. Bar brawls involving demons just isn't my scene and I didn't find the story particularly engaging. For me, the setting of the Tambuku Tiki Lounge, near Big Sur was the most interesting aspect of this story as I have links to that area.
