Often she loses time and doesn't know what happened during that period. She is in Witness Protection also known as WITSEC. Someone in WITSEC named her Eve and she is being taken care of by two agents. The agent called Malcolm genuinely seems to like Eve, but she lives with Nicki who is posing as her aunt and Nicki is just as frank in her dislike of Eve. Nicki gets her a job at the library so she'll appear normal. The head of the WITSEC program becomes impatient with Eve's progress and introduces her to three other teenagers, two boys and a girl about her age. They frighten her. Eve doesn't understand how they can help her remember. The girl can turn into a snake. One of the boys has electricity on tap in his fingers and the third person, Aidan, can disappear and reappear elsewhere. They terrify Eve, who is beginning to learn that she has talents of her own. Aidan tells Eve that they aren't in WITSEC as potential witnesses but because they are targets of a serial killer. He seems to think Eve is his girlfriend, but since it happened during a period where she lost time, Eve can only take his word for it. If she were allowed to have a personal relationship, she would choose Zach who is a fellow employee at the library. Eve is appealing but unreliable in her narrative because of her lost memories and continuing blackout periods. Conjured is slow paced but a well done thriller that you can't walk away from.
