Locals as well as tourists are gearing up for the picking season at Miles Crawford's strawberry farm. There is a drastic setback, however, when strawberry farmer Miles Crawford is found dead in one of his hoophouses, apparently murdered! Rumors had been flying around the village that Miles was secretly selling his prime land, with a view to top all views of the Atlantic Ocean, to a conglomerate that wants to tear out the strawberry vines and put in a resort. Which would, of course, change the whole complexion of the village. Who could have wanted to kill the old man, almost a recluse, who lived alone and worked his land? Realtor Lydia St. Graves, we know as readers, found Miles' body and ran as fast as she could the other way. There is a woman's group that wants to preserve the history of the village and will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal. A resort is not on their agenda. Several other names pop up as possible culprits but most have alibis that let them off the hook. A Strawberry Fair is in the works and the whole town has been working toward making it the beginning of many more. But a man, a neighbor, has been struck down. Is it right and proper to ignore his death and go on with the festivities? Town in a Strawberry Swirl by B. B. Haywood is a real delight. And the luscious recipes at the end will have you salivating, unable to wait for the strawberry season. The Pasta with Strawberry, Leek, and Fennel can't wait for me to stoke up the stove. Town in a Strawberry Swirl is the fifth in the Candy Holliday series. Each with a catchy title and a good mystery. The characters who inhabit Cape Willington make the read more than worthwhile.
