The wealthy Lady Diana seeks Kit's help when the words slut and greedy seem to magically appear on her person while she is deep in slumber. After agreeing to help the distressed Diana, Kit soon finds herself in over her head trying to solve the mystery. Tangled in the mystery of the curse afflicting the wealthy, Kit must face the realities of living in a society that does believe in magic. Deathmage Lucien Dredmore is particularly interested in Kit, but why? Is the woman who doesn't believe in magic and sets out to debunk its spells and curses the most magical of them all? Author Lynn Viehl has crafted a most interesting story. Disenchanted & Co. is essentially two books in one, Part One being Her Ladyship's Curse and Part Two His Lordship Possessed. It's set in the town of Rumsen on the west coast - Rumsen is similar to the Pacific Northwest's city of Seattle. Kit inhabits a Victorian world, influenced by America's loss of the Revolutionary War. The story is complex, in part a mystery but also a romance (remember Dredmore? And I didn't mention Kit's old friend and romantic interest, the police officer who reappears in her life!), and action-packed thriller with a twist of supernatural sci-fi thrown in. Although it took me a good portion of the book to really get into this imaginative and creative story, I certainly did not get bored with this read!
