And it works. Well. Jessica Lessing, a movie star, has become reclusive because her con-man father has been outing her whereabouts to the paparazzi - for recompense, of course. She has Dana, an experienced and fearless bodyguard to help her retreat from the world. Vivian, a teenager with twin babies, is homeless and enters the picture as she meets Lynn, a dog shelter owner looking for help. Each woman has a story all her own. And does not have the inclination to share those stories. Survival appears to be the only real thing on their minds. Jessica hears that her father is dying in a Las Vegas hospital. She decides to go to Vegas to confront the man about his treatment of her. He tells the press that he has been a loving and caring father since she was born, which is false, as are most of his statements. But his words to the press give an untrue picture of the woman Jessica actually is. Dana, the bodyguard has her back all the way. Dana is wrestling with her own problems. She is in love with a man who has a threatening and debilitating disease. He wants to marry and she just can't commit. Lynn rescues dogs and has just lost her help. Vivian sees an ad Lynn has posted and applies for the work. Her twins have to be part of the deal she makes with Lynn, who is handicapped and really needs staff. Each of these diverse women finds redemption through their own actions. MacKenzie Bezos has written Traps with a delicacy of words, relating stories that could be those of you or me. She writes with such compassion and heart that it makes one wonder about her own story.
