Raising her only daughter alone on a large estate (where she acts as steward) keeps her busy and isolated, just the way she likes it. She has no desire to marry and does not hold men in high regard. But now Douglas Allen, Viscount Amery arrives seeking lessons on the husbandry of his new lands. She finds Douglas straightforward, a thinker, and above all else a gentleman. Guinevere slowly warms up to Douglas and they become friends, with a bit of a twist. Douglas has offered her a deal involving lessons of intimacy, that has definitely enticed her. Everything about him makes Guinevere melt and want him even more. The Duke of Moreland arranges a betrothal between Gwen and his heir, Victor. Douglas knows that Victor is the father of Guinevere's daughter Rose, and the man who sadly misused her. He knows she does not want the marriage but is determined to let Guinevere make her own choice even if that choice does not include him. Douglas decides that Guinevere cannot take on the Duke by herself and will do whatever he can to ensure her happiness. I totally enjoyed this romance, mainly for the matter of fact dialogue between Gwen and Douglas, which made me chuckle more than once. I have always liked a strong minded heroine who succumbs to love. I find Grace Burrowes always injects morale fibre into her thought provoking books and has an eye for detail that makes readers feel right at home.
