ndrew is home, after travelling all over the continent, running from his tragic past. He exiled himself not only from his family but also from the only woman he ever loved. Some of his family died in a yachting accident which still haunts him as does his dark secret. As the years passed, Andrew assumed that his beloved Astrid would have married and moved on with her life. He finds out that she had married, is expecting a child - and was widowed.

ndrew learns that Astrid's husband was killed while cleaning a gun, but the circumstances are suspicious. The fact that Astrid's inheritance from her husband is totally gone leads Andrew to suspect the deceased's family. Astrid's life has been threatened as well as that of the unborn child. Andrew will do anything to protect Astrid, and he will also do anything to keep her from finding out his secret.

race Burrowes always meets my expectations for historical romance, creating well loved characters who surmount life's adversities. She intertwines characters from previous novels adding a familiarity to her novels that I enjoy. Her writing is crisp, clean and leaves readers wanting more. To me, Burrowes is the queen of romance.
